Source: MS DOR Pub 89-700-25-1 (Rev. 08/25), 'Withholding Income Tax Tables And Employer Instructions', with withholding tables printed 'EFFECTIVE JANUARY 1, 2026'. Rate structure (p.2 'Income Tax Rates'): first $10,000 of taxable income at 0%, remaining balance at 4.0% (the enacted 2026 rate; 2024 was 4.7%, 2025 was 4.4%). NOTE: the same publication carries two stale artifacts left un-updated by the DOR — the p.2 rate table is mislabeled 'Tax Year 2024', and the p.8 manual-overflow shortcut still reads 'multiply the excess by 5%' (the pre-2023 rate); the operative 2026 tables and rate table use 4.0%. Exemptions (p.7, statute): Single $6,000, Married(joint) $12,000, Head-of-Family $9,500 (=$8,000 + one required dependent $1,500), each additional dependent/65+/blind $1,500. Married-separate splits exemptions equally = $6,000. Standard deductions (p.2): Single $2,300, Head $3,400, Married $4,600, married-separate $2,300 (half). LIMITATION: for Head-of-Family filers the $9,500 already embeds one dependent, so entering dependents adds $1,500 each on top of that first one (a minor over-deduction only for head-of-household WITH dependents); single/married cases and the golden are exact.
